Two days ago would have been the 24th birthday of my incredible daughter, Linnea Rose Mills.
So it feels extra special that today the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula Montana announced the February 14, 2026 world premiere of the documentary How to Kill a Mermaid: The Linnea Mills Story. Directed by Damon Ristau, the filmmaker father of one of Linnea’s best high school friends, the film will show at the iconic Wilma Theater, the festival’s largest venue.
Here is the synopsis from the Big Sky Film Festival website:
How to Kill a Mermaid: The Linnea Mills Story is a heart-wrenching, true-crime feature documentary that examines the death of 18-year-old Linnea Mills during a 2020 cold-water scuba diving class in Montana's Glacier National Park. This intimate portrait of a beautiful life tragically cut short reveals never-before-seen footage as it reexamines the fatal dive and the investigation that followed. Grief collides with treachery as Linnea’s family relentlessly pursues truth, accountability and resilience following unimaginable loss.
Truth Brings Justice. And Truth will Save Lives.
More to come on this, stay tuned.
And I hope to see you at the Wilma February 14.
