Linnea's Story

My greatest joys in life have been my children: John Nicholas (we call him ‘Nick’) and Linnea Rose.

After 18-year old Linnea was killed in one of scuba diving’s most negligent training classes, we started The Linnea Foundation to carry forward her dream by supporting causes that she would have appreciated.

In December 2025 I started writing a book about Linnea. It's now close to completion and I'm searching for an agent/publisher.

Also, over the last 3 years I've helped provide background information to film-maker Damon Ristau, the dad of one of Linnea's best high school friends, who has produced a remarkable documentary: How to Kill a Mermaid: The Linnea Mills Story.

It premiered February 14, 2026 to a sold-out crowd of 800 at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.

The film has received really positive reviews and will be shown on the global film festival circuit until it is (hopefully) picked up by a distributor.

Finally, my book-in-progress and this documentary are independent creations through different lenses, sharing the same goal: to tell Linnea’s story. That includes the joy and beauty of Linnea's arc, and also how her shocking death fueled our battle to expose the breadth of treachery in the unregulated scuba training industry. If and when you absorb the evidence we offer for the scope of negligence that killed Linnea, and are interested in helping us call for justice and accountability, please check out ForLinnea.org.
